Turkey Monte Cristos

Who doesn’t like a Monte Cristo sandwich? They are crispy on the outside and filled with a surprise on the inside. I like this one because I just love Muenster cheese. I hope you like it too!
Ingredients -
8 Slices Sourdough Sandwich Bread
8 Teaspoons Honey Dijon Mustard
1/2 Pound Sliced Smoked Turkey
1/3 Pound Sliced Muenster Cheese
12 Leaves of Basil
3 Eggs
1 Tablespoon Whole Milk
1/8 Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
1/8 Teaspoon Nutmeg
2 Tablespoon Butter

Preparation:

1. Place 4 slices of bread on a work surface and spread each with 2 tsp mustard.

2. Divide the turkey and cheese over each bread slice.

3. Top each with 3 pieces of basil and the remaining bread slices.

4. In a shallow dish, beat eggs, milk, cayenne and nutmeg.

5. Heat a skillet.

6. Add 1 tablespoon butter, when foamy, dip 2 of the sandwiches in the egg mixture and add to the skillet.

7. Cook for 4 minutes per side or until nicely browned.

8. Remove the sandwiches from the skillet and keep warm.

9. Reduce heat and repeat with the remaining butter and sandwiches.

10. Server the sandwiches immediately.

Cooking Tip
Serving Idea
These sandwiches are really great with roasted potatoes served on the side. Cut up some little baby red potatoes and put some spices on them and just roast them in the oven and serve with the sandwiches and it’s just a great meal.

Cooking Tip
Basil
If you aren’t very fond of Basil you can switch up the recipe by using Arugula instead of Basil and it is equally as good but a totally different flavor.
